The absurdness of country borders

Imagine that the people in Paris – through a democratic vote – decided that all other french people no longer were allowed to come and live in Paris.

“We cannot allow those southern French people to come and take our jobs” could be one Parisian’s argument, while another would fear that “They will not get jobs, so we will have to pay social welfare for them. And we cannot help all French people.”.

Others would bluntly say “Paris has a unique culture, and it would get spoiled and diluted if we had too many other French people moving into Paris with their strange rural cultures.”

Wouldn’t that be totally absurd?

Yes. But that is exactly how countries work today.
Small, conservative, private clubs for “members only” that you are born into.

How can we – in the 21st century – allow ourselves to hinder people from moving around as they want?

Isn’t it time to leave the tribal and nationalistic thinking behind and find a fresh approach to this issue?
