Japanese Phone Number Verification 2022
Address and ID verification required for Japanese numbers purchased before December 2018.
Due to changes in local regulations, our old provider of phone numbers in Japan needs to verify the address and ID details of all our customers who have purchased Japanese numbers from us prior to December 2018.
The following information requested by the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications must be verified by 31st March 2022. Any number that remains unverified is at the risk of disconnection.
The information required depends on the type of phone number you have purchased. The detailed requirements are given below:
Geographic numbers
- Company name
- Name of the company’s authorized representative
- Address of the company’s office in the same city as the number where the phone number will be used.
- Address of the company’s head office (if different from above).
- Proof of identity (all documents required):
- Business registration ID or similar government certified document.
- Personal photo ID or passport copy of the company’s authorized representative
- Document linking the authorized representative to the company (if not mentioned on the business registration).
- Proof of address from the city of the phone number (any one, less than 6 months old):
- Certificate of registered matters
- Sealed registration certificate
- Document verifying the name & address issued by the government authority of Japan
- Utility bill
If the proof of address is more than 6 months old (or does not show an address from the city of the phone number), then one the following documents must also be submitted:
- National or local tax receipt
- Social insurance premium receipt
- Public utility charges receipt (for electricity, gas, water or equivalent public charge issued by the public utility company directly – must be less than 3 months old)
- Document containing full name of company and address issued by a foreign government and approved by the government of Japan or an equivalent international organization.
Due to changes in the local regulations, your address will be verified using a double acceptance method. Our local partners will send a transaction related document to your head office, for which you must sign. Please note that this may take several weeks to clear, as our partners will have to wait for the transaction related documents to arrive, and receive confirmation back from their courier that you have signed for the document.
