How Sonetel handles your contacts
This English version is the authoritative version of this page. Translations into other languages are provided for convenience only.
Connecting your contacts is optional. If you turn it on, Sonetel uploads the contacts from your phone to our servers, so you can reach the same people from every Sonetel app.
What we collect
When contact sync is on, we upload every contact in your phone's address book. There is no selection step and no per-contact opt-out. For each contact we send:
- Name and company name
- Phone numbers, with their type — mobile, home, work and so on
- Email addresses, with their type
- Postal addresses
- The website your phone stores for the contact
- Birthday, when your phone holds one that includes the year
- An identifier for that contact on your device, and an identifier for the device itself. Neither is hashed.
What we do not collect
We do not upload contact notes, job titles, contact groups, or social and messaging handles.
Contact photos stay on your phone. The app shows them to you next to a name; it never uploads them.
Contact sync keeps running
This is not a one-time import. While contact sync is on, the app keeps your contacts up to date — when you open it, and when your phone's address book changes. If you delete a contact on your phone, the app tells our servers to remove it too.
What we use your contacts for
- Showing your contacts in every Sonetel app, and in the Sonetel web app
- Finding which of your contacts already use Sonetel, so we can mark them as free to call. We match on email address and mobile number.
We never use your contacts for marketing.
Who can see them
Your contacts are stored on your Sonetel account, on servers run by our hosting providers. Our customer-service team can see them when you ask us for help with them.
How long we keep them
We do not delete synced contacts on a schedule — there is no automatic expiry. You can ask us to delete them at any time; see below.
Turning contact sync off
You can stop contact sync by removing the Contacts permission in your phone's settings. That stops us reading anything new from your phone. It does not delete the contacts we have already stored.
Deleting your contacts
Deleting your Sonetel account also triggers deletion of the contacts we hold for you. You can delete your account in the app, under Settings.
You can also email support@sonetel.com at any time and ask us to delete your synced contacts.
