SMS
You can send and receive SMS on some types of numbers that we provide. Two-way SMS works on numbers in 16 of the 78 countries where we sell them.
- All mobile numbers (except the ones listed below) that you purchase from Sonetel as well as city numbers in Canada, Czech Republic and United States support SMS.
- We deliver these SMS messages to you by email (SMS-to-Email).
- Emails are sent to the user that the Sonetel phone number is connected to.
- You can send SMS from the Sonetel app, on numbers in the countries listed below.
Free trial numbers cannot send SMS. An SMS sent to a free trial number is not delivered to you. You get a notification that a message arrived, but you do not get the message itself.

A US Sonetel number can send outbound SMS to supported destinations and receive SMS normally. Sending SMS to a US phone number isn't currently supported, while we work with our carrier partner on the required 10DLC registration.
Receiving SMS is supported in more countries than sending. We do not sell numbers in Israel, so an Israeli number cannot be bought here.
Mobile numbers that do not support SMS
Mobile numbers from the following countries do not support SMS.
- Brazil
- Colombia
- Ghana
- Nicaragua
- Denmark
Pricing for inbound SMS to US phone numbers
Inbound SMS to US phone numbers is billed based on message length. Pricing:
- Basic plan: $0.01 per SMS
- Premium plan: 100 inbound SMS per user/month included, then $0.006 per SMS (40% discounted rate)
- Business plan: 200 inbound SMS per user/month included, then $0.006 per SMS (40% discounted rate)
Inbound SMS is generally included at no extra cost for SMS-supported phone numbers from all other countries, subject to fair usage limits. US phone numbers are an exception and are billed per SMS.
Messages up to 160 characters may count as one SMS, depending on the message encoding. Longer messages may be billed as more than one SMS.
Not receiving SMS?
If you are not receiving SMS-to-email, this may be caused by either of the following factors.
- Free trial number You do not receive SMS-to-email while the number is on a free trial. Purchase the number and try again.
- Account not verified If you haven't verified your account yet, you cannot receive SMS-to-email.
- Went to spam inbox Check your email spam inbox to see if the SMS delivery ended up there. Add sonetel.com to your safe senders list.
- Low prepaid balance Your Sonetel account must hold positive prepaid balance.
