Android App

What Call mode should I use?

The Sonetel Android app has three call modes: Call back ,Call thru and VoIP.

To change the call mode, click on the icon above the dial pad.

  • Call Back
Works like this: When you hit the „Call“ button in the app, the app will (via the Internet) ask Sonetel’s systems to make a call out to your mobile phone number.
When you answer the call from us, we will immediately and automatically start calling the foreign number/contact that you wanted to call – and then bridge the two local calls together.
Call back can be used for making calls from any country worldwide.
  • Call thru
Works like this: When you hit the „Call“ button in the app, the app will (via the Internet) tell Sonetel’s systems what destination number you want to call and what number you are calling from. It will then instruct your Android phone to make a call to the local access number for Sonetel (available in +50 countries).
When the call from your Android phone reaches our network, we will immediately start calling the number/contact that you wanted to call and then bridge the two local calls together.
  • VoIP
Works like this: When you hit the „Call“ button in the app, the app initiates a call across your mobile phone’s Internet connection to Sonetel. When the call from your Android reaches our network, we will immediately start calling the number/contact that you wanted to call and then bridge the two local calls together.
VoIP works worldwide – but quality depends on your Internet connection, Internet router, Firewalls etc.
If you need dependable call quality, do not use the VoIP call mode.
From 1st March 2019, when you place a Callback call our system will always call you from +12028698283.

Benefits of each call mode

  • Call back
    • You pay Sonetel for both local calls (the call to your mobile + the call to in the destination country). In case you have a prepaid SIM-card, this means that you can make calls without consuming any credits on the SIM-card.
    • Works worldwide.
  • Call thru
    • If you have a mobile plan that allows you to make free local calls within your country, Call thru is better, as you then only need to pay for the local call in the country you are calling to.
  • VoIP
    • You only pay for the local call in the remote country you are calling to.
    • You can make free calls to other Sonetel users – if that also answer calls with VoIP.

Please note that if you have Sonetel Premium calls to over 40 countries become free. This may imply that the call to your mobile (with Call back) or the local call in the destination country – is free.
