SIP

Firewalls and NATs

If you connect to the Sonetel service with a SIP device of some type then you may experience problems caused by your Internet router, NAT or Firewall.

Every computer network – in homes and at offices – is usually protected by a firewall that prevents hackers at the Internet from getting control over your computers and information.

Even the cheapest routers that you buy for use at home include a firewall.

These routers also include a so called NAT, which allows you to have multiple computers on your computer network, although your Internet provider only has provided you with one address (IP number). The NAT magically allows multiple computers within a local network to appear as one to the outside.

In case you have audio problems with calls please contact Sonetel support.
