December 17th 2014 – Eight minute network outage
1.33 PM UTC. Our main production site became unavailable. This impacted both calls and the access to our customer Portal.
The connection was restored after 8 minutes.
The outage did not have any impact on ongoing calls – unless they were connected via our Media Relay servers (which only a small portion of our customers use in case of issues with their Internet router).
The cause of the issue is still unknown. Our engineering team is investigating if the cause was in our equipment or in the network.
We have backup network access, and even a complete cold standby fail-over site, but given the short outage, neither of these were activated.
Update: The root cause of the issue has been identified. One of the routers managed by our ISP at our European datacenter rebooted & recovered automatically causing the 8 minute outage.
